In your youth, an abundance of collagen and hyaluronic acid keep your skin looking smooth and supple. Collagen, a protein, provides your skin with structural support. Hyaluronic acid, a natural sugar found in all living cells that attracts and binds water, hydrates the skin and gives it volume.
With time, sunlight and other factors these two elements in your skin diminish, causing aging skin. That’s when the skin begins to lose structure and volume, and the unwelcome lines and deep wrinkles start to appear.
Dermal fillers are used to smooth deep wrinkles, fill facial folds and enhance various parts of the face such as the lips, cheeks and jawline. They can also be used for depressed or sunken areas such as scars. At Guelph Laser we utilize dermal fillers that consist of a crystal-clear gel composed of non-animal sourced hyaluronic acid. Since hyaluronic acid occurs naturally in the body, after being injected into facial tissue it will slowly break down and be naturally integrated into the body.
Unlike Botox® Cosmetic which is used to correct dynamic facial wrinkles, dermal fillers restore lost volume in static wrinkles and areas of the face giving you a refreshed, more youthful ‘lifted’ look. However, when Botox® Cosmetic and dermal fillers are used at the same time (known as a SoftLift when Juvederm is used), the anti-aging results are amplified.
There are many different types and brands of filler available, but we mainly utilize Juvederm, Juvederm Voluma and Teosyal, which are all high-quality brands of dermal filler that produce impressive results. They have the ability to smooth deep wrinkles, fill lines and enhance lips or cheeks instantly. No pre-test is needed because unlike some dermal filler solutions, the occurrence of an adverse reaction to hyaluronic acid is rare.
Your safety and satisfaction with the results of your treatment are extremely important to us at Guelph Medical Laser & Skin Care Centre. Only highly experienced, trained and certified injectors such as Sylvia Dodd, RPN will perform your treatment.
We obtain our dermal fillers directly from the manufacturer in order to ensure their quality, to be able to participate in additional training and to have access to clinical studies (which evaluate safety and effectiveness for different applications). Lastly, we “test” all of the dermal fillers on ourselves before offering it as a treatment – it’s one of the best ways for us to determine that the results are just what our patients are looking for.
